…protects the right of the people to keep and bear arms and was adopted on the 15th of December, 1791.
And after Orlando, Big Bill O’Reilly (on another one of his book tours) attempted to justify this 225-year-old piece of legislation on the grounds that it had protected Americans from the Redcoats, during the War Of Independence.
Two things Bill; firstly you WON that war – THE REDCOATS ARE NOT COMING BACK. And secondly – the war ENDED EIGHT YEARS BEFORE the Second Amendment came into being (I thought you were supposed to be an EXPERT on matters historical).
He also noted that arms had been necessary to protect Americans from attacks, during the days of the Wild West.
Two MORE things Bill; firstly the “attacks” were from Native Americans who were DEFENDING themselves – from YOU. And secondly, the Wild West ALSO ended – over A CENTURY ago. Furthermore, contrary to your Westerns – most people in the Old West DID NOT CARRY GUNS.
Then of course, Americans just LOVE to HUNT. Every year, they go creeping around their forests, blasting away at anything that moves.
But yet again, this is anachronistic (that means “from another time”) as these days, you can buy cooked animal meat from any number of retail outlets (try “Burger King”) or cook it yourself, having obtained it from any supermarket.
The cure for America’s love of slaughtering each other with guns is very simple – just BAN ALL GUNS.
You do not need them for protection. Home invasions are actually very rare. And when one happens, the victims are seldom able to REACH them.
No, the vast majority of deaths that result from legally held handguns are accidents, neighbour disputes, road-rage (when carried in vehicles) and naturally – spousal altercations.
And Americans seem more than happy to ACCEPT those ROUTINE deaths, in order to RETAIN that all-important Second Amendment.
But increasingly, they now have SPECIAL deaths – MASS shootings – of which Orlando was just the latest. And there will undoubtedly be MORE.
It is amazing to those outside the USA that Americans CONSTANTLY get incarcerated for DECADES for carrying around a few grams of POT – and yet it seems to have occurred to no-one that that same legislation could be used on those found to be in possession of a GUN.
The word “retards” immediately springs to mind…
