The 2015 UN World Happiness Report has just been issued.
Apparently, they did more than just send out a few kids with clipboards to buttonhole passers-by – their report runs to hundreds of pages.
But it is all BULLSH*T.
For instance, cold, wet, miserable Britain comes in ABOVE Thailand – and as an ex-pat Brit LIVING in Thailand (AKA The Land Of Smiles) I can TELL you THAT is bullsh*t!
The thing is, despite all those reams of stats, the UN researchers have totally missed the POINT.
Once upon a time, a woman with six kids and a dog lost her husband.
Now she had to feed, clothe and raise the kids single-handedly. It nearly killed her, but she managed it.
But as the years went by, one by one, they grew up and left to seek their fortunes. And once the last one had gone, it was just her and the dog.
However, whereas in the past she had just opened a tin of dog-food twice a day and plonked its contents into his bowl, now old Jasper became a PROBLEM.
His care, feeding, grooming, health – even psychological issues – all had to be addressed.
You see what I mean? It is in the NATURE of people to have problems, but whether they are big or small can only be appreciated in context.
Like, a person living in a tropical island paradise might be really down because their mail is late.
And this is where the UN survey falls down.
Obviously people in Thailand are WAY happier than those in Britain. But to prove it, you would have to take a bunch of people from each of the two countries – and let them walk in the OTHER lot’s shoes for a month.
THEN you would get a different result!
