I can understand people imagining that legalising gay marriage will “devalue” their own STRAIGHT marriages – or objecting on religious grounds (poor souls both) but I always have to laugh when guys ask, “But what would be next? Men marrying their HORSES? Their CARS?”
In 1928, thanks largely to the efforts of Emmy Pankhurst, women became eligible to vote. And men asked, “But what will be next? Giving HORSES the vote? CARS?”
But of course, in the eighty-five years since that time, the only major progression in who (or what) gets to vote – is that the age of eligibility (for BOTH sexes) was lowered from 21 to 18, in 1970.
And while a number of efforts have been made to lower it further, to 16 – so far nothing else has changed.
And to date, horses and cars have not even been discussed…
