Sadly, CNN is only a shadow of its former self, these days – no longer the young, thrusting, cutting-edge news service it once was.
Remember how it ignored the US government during the first Gulf War and was the only major news service to cover the REAL story?
But now, it has gotten old and fat.
Then again, at least it still has INTEGRITY (it is not Fox “News”) and so does one of its leading lights, Anderson Cooper.
Therefore, it was NICE when Anderson finally burst forth with, “It’s become clear to me that by remaining silent on certain aspects of my personal life for so long, I have given some the mistaken impression that I am trying to hide something.
He continued, “The fact is, I’m gay, always have been, always will be, and I couldn’t be any more happy, comfortable with myself and proud.
And added, “I have always been very open and honest about this part of my life with my friends, my family, and my colleagues.”
THIS reporter’s “gaydar” has always been pretty sharp – therefore the news came as no surprise to HIM.
But he was encouraged by the fact that this well-liked and respected journalist had chosen this moment to come out.
Any earlier and it would have appeared that he was making an issue of it – when it was really no-one’s damn business but his own.
However, had he continued to keep schtum about it, while others were beginning to MAKE it an issue, then it would have appeared that he WAS “trying to hide something” – at least, to “some” people.
And while those people might be BIGOTS, they still represent a slice of the public – whom any serious reporter needs to maintain credibility with.
So – nice timing, Anderson.
This reporter sends him good wishes.
